Inahina, the government ministry
that controls all the hydrographical survey work for Mozambique commissioned
this project. The objective was to take an existing boat (Zavora) that had
proven to be completely impractical and extremely expensive to run and convert
it to a single motor with a keel drive. This would affectively eliminate
many of the problems that had been experienced with the boat previously.
The project was particularly difficult as it involved redesigning sections
of the hull and transom and build a tunnel for the new propeller system
and rudder to operate in. The planning for the work was 9 months and eventually
11 months with unplanned delays having the propeller and drive system manufactured.
The objective was to have a boat that could sustain a speed of 8 to10 knots
and reduce the fuel consumption - all was achieved. The vessel was officially
commissioned on the 18th of January 2007.
